The Wedding of Stacy and Michael at Franklin Commons

This past wedding season was a lot of fun, and all of our DJ staff at Cutting Edge Entertainment have been doing a lot of great parties and events.  A big highlight to being a Wedding DJ is getting to know the bride and groom.  In a wrap-up meeting or on the phone, the excitement and anticipation a bride and groom express about their big day is contagious.  The first time I met Stacy and Michael, that passion was in the air.  Their number one priority was to ensure that everyone was out on the dance floor.  For them, this was key because they had attended weddings in the past where they had experienced few and sometimes even no guests dancing.  I don’t believe people get all dressed up and go out just so they can sit at a table and stare at their cell phones, watches or one another, but that people come to these celebrations to have a good time.  I feel it is a team effort between the event manager or maître d and the DJ to make an event successful.  My biggest concern at any event I’m involved with in the role of DJ is to eliminate any lull or down-time.  It is important to have a nice flow throughout the entire event, with my goal being to keep everyone entertained and involved.   Along with the bride and groom, we were able to put together flawless timeline for the reception.

This was my first time working at the Franklin Commons in Phoenixville, Chester County Pennsylvania, and it was a great experience.  The guests enjoyed their cocktail hour, during which we played a little bit of everything while everyone enjoyed hors d’oeuvres and drinks.  Once cocktails ended, the guests were seated and with the help of the staff at Franklin Commons we started our introductions.  When I do the bridal party introductions, it’s a great opportunity to get things off to an upbeat start.  At the same time, I‘m very cautious not to come off as the cheesy, over the top radio announcer guy.  I learned from many great teachers throughout my time at Cutting Edge Entertainment, and one of the best lessons I received is, “Nothing works better than just being yourself.”  If you try to be something you’re not, people may sense that and you can come off as being uncomfortable on the microphone.  As soon as Stacy and Michael entered the room, we had them take center stage on the dance floor for their first dance as husband and wife.

This was a great crowd to DJ for, as the dance floor was packed full as soon as dinner ended. I usually start my first dance set with music geared to older guests, and play some oldies, Motown, Disco, and Funk, then later on in the night I segue into the current hits. The reason I do it this way is because older guests are the ones that tend to leave earlier in the night, and I have found that younger people – for the most part – will dance to music from older generations, while many older guests are hesitant to dance to popular music of today. As the Wedding DJ, it is my job to play music and get guests of all generations out there during the course of the reception. Stacy and Michael were dancing most of the night, and their family and friends were right out there with them.

I worked with A Little Bird Photography at this wedding. They did an awesome job, and I really enjoy working with Jamie and her staff. My assistant DJ for the night was our very own DJ Jarred, who has been with us for a little over two years now. It is a nice feeling to know that whenever I need to step away from the DJ gear, either to line up everyone for introductions, coordinate with the maître d, or even when I had to use the men’s room, that he has things under control, and kept the party going.

As you can tell from the images featured on the blog post, this was an awesome party. I enjoyed working with Stacy and Michael so much, I am kind of bummed that their wedding is over. Hopefully, I get to see them again at future events.  Good luck and wishing all the best to the both of you on your new journey as husband and wife.

A few weeks after her wedding Stacy took to Wedding Wire and posted the following testimonial:

Cutting Edge was amazing from start to finish. Richie Abrams was our DJ, and he really invests in knowing exactly you like, and don’t like. He kept the 215 person crowd on their feet all night, and we got so many compliments on the music. This company truly puts everything into making your night special, and knows music is the biggest priority to having an awesome party. Richie made our night unforgettable. Thank you Cutting Edge!
