Tom and Shannon’s Philadelphia Wedding

Over two decades ago, I began to learn that the job of Wedding DJ didn’t just require a broad and extensive knowledge of music, but an intrinsic understanding of the different cultures and their wedding traditions that make up the fiber of our country.  Admittedly, one of my all-time favorites is the wedding traditions and customs of China.  When Tom and Shannon first contacted us to be the Wedding DJ at their reception, I was especially honored because I’d done many events for Tom’s family over my years as a DJ.  Although our DJ Steve took on the MC/DJ hat for this wedding – attending to the music requests, announcements and timeline (the real work) – I came along as a sort of DJ Emeritus. It was great to see all of Tom’s family again, and to meet Shannon’s family.  Such great people!

The reception was held at the Joy Tsin Lau restaurant in the Chinatown section of Philadelphia, who served up course after course of amazing and delectable traditional Chinese courses, which Tom’s mother insisted we try.  They really made us feel like part of the family, which only makes us work that much harder… Not that we had to, as this crowd came ready to party.  There wasn’t a dull moment, and once the dancing began, the dance floor stayed packed all night.

Thank you Tom and Shannon for choosing us as your Wedding DJ, and I wish you both the best of everything in your lives together as husband and wife.

As a Wedding DJ and MC, I was honored to share this duty at Tom and Shannon’s wedding with my teacher and mentor, Craig.

Tom and Shannon are a remarkable couple, and a pleasure to work with. When we met with them, I was excited to learn some traditional Chinese customs that Tom would be partaking in with his bride Shannon. As they laid out the blueprint, I could not help but imagine how beautiful and special this wedding was going to be.

Tom and Shannon were introduced with a Chinese dragon, and drums. The entire ceremony was incredible, and it definitely added an extremely unique taste to their special day. Their party was rich with Chinese traditions, something I had never been a part of. I was honored to have them share with me the experiences, especially with the beautiful tea ceremony that took place between courses.

The dance floor was packed all night with classic Motown and Disco sets! It was truly a DJ’s dream come true to have kept everyone out of their seats, celebrating and dancing with the bride and groom.  Also a big thank you to Photographer Gina Myers for allowing us to use these images on our blog.

Thank you so much Tom and Shannon, for letting me help celebrate with you; it was truly a pleasure! It was so great getting to know the both of you, and I wish you all of the best!
