The Skylands Manor Wedding of Bridgit and Doug

As time marches forward and lazily passes us by, I’ll occasionally stop to think about moments – sometimes even as I’m in the moment itself – and wonder if they were simple coincidence or if they were destined to occur. I think the way that kicked off my wedding adventure with Bridgit and Doug is one that may be a bit of both. A year ago I began teaching at a middle school in Northern New Jersey, roughly ninety minutes from Cutting Edge Entertainment; a few weeks later a Bridgit and Doug, who live only minutes from the school, called our office to inquire about our DJ services. Little did we know, the unlikeliest of connections would lead to a perfect fit between Bride, Groom and Wedding DJ.

Mid-planning,  a venue change was required, moving the wedding from New Hope, PA to The Skylands Manor in Ringwood, NJ.  It was like I was here and they were coming here, and then they were there and… well I digress.  Needless to say, I’m now no stranger to the drive from Philadelphia, or to the Northern New Jersey area in general.  In regard to a venue change we didn’t skip a beat, but instead saved them all (the beats that is) for a group of wedding-goers that were ready to rock.

The evening kicked off with a throwback dance set and the timeless “At Last” by Etta James as the first dance. Although Brigit described herself as “an old soul”, from a passionate DJ perspective it wasn’t old, it was classic! With a request list that included Michael Jackson, Madonna, The Temptations and Van Morrison it was easy to see why the crowd loved the Bride and Groom’s most excellent selections.  In many ways, Bridgit and Doug are like the dream clients; they gave me specific ideas on the music and feel that they wanted for their wedding reception, yet were conscious to choose tunes that their guests would also enjoy, and that would work well in getting their friends and family up out of their seats.
