In September of 2015 I had the honor and privilege of being chosen as the Wedding DJ for Trish and Shawn’s wedding reception, held at the Sofitel, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I met Trish and Shawn months prior to their wedding. We sat for about an hour in our office going over what they are looking for with the music for their reception. Like most people I meet with they know some songs they want, but were also looking for help from me to fill in some of the blanks. When a couple decides to book Cutting Edge Entertainment for their wedding, we make it clear that our work begins months before the actual day. We spend hours with our clients on the phone, via email, and in our wrap up meeting going over music. While some other professional Wedding DJ companies may just have the bride and groom fill out an online planning guide, I feel part of my job is to make picking out the music as easy and fun as possible.
When the big day for Trish and Shawn finally came, my assistant DJ and I arrived at the Sofitel about two hours before the start of the ceremony. We quickly got set up and settled in, before the roughly one hundred and fifty guests arrived. Being prepared is paramount to success. The ceremony was held on the property, and we were happy to provide a microphone for the Officiant and the vows. Sometimes it is necessary during the ceremony to have a microphone to guarantee everything is heard by all attendees, a service we are accustomed to providing. Following the ceremony we provided music for the cocktail hour, but were very conscious of the volume of the music. Of course we want people to hear the music we are playing, but, at the same time, we don’t want people shouting at each other as they are trying to mix and mingle. Once cocktail hour was over, guests headed into the ballroom, where we introduced the parents, bridal party, and our bride and groom. Once we introduced Trish and Shawn into the room, we had them begin their first dance.
Trish and Shawn are definitely both party animals, and they really wanted for all of their guests to have a great time. They picked the right Wedding DJ for the job, because getting (and keeping) people out on the dance floor happens to be my specialty. I played everything from “Shout” by Otis Day and The Knights to “Blurred Lines” by Robin Thicke, and everyone had a blast. One thing remained the same… It didn’t hurt that this crowd was ready to go as soon as dinner was over, and did not stop until the reception came to a close.
Now, of course, I can’t take all the credit for the success of the party. I worked together with the fantastic staff at Sofitel, who did a great job and were easy to work with. Delicious food is a key element to a successful party, and the food was outstanding. I also worked alongside Sal of Baiada Photography. They took some great pictures from the party, and although we have worked with them before, this is the first time we have had the opportunity to feature their fun and festive party pictures on our blog. As always they rocked, and I can’t wait to work with them again.
A few weeks after the wedding Trish left this very kind review on The Knot…
Richie from Cutting Edge DJ’d our wedding Sept 18th and it was perfect! From our initial meeting, Richie put me at ease and it was easy to make the decision to book. The process was seamless and he knew exactly what to do. He gave us the timeline for the evening that we needed, assisted with song selections that we were struggling with and had everything set up and ready to go for our ceremony. I highly recommend Richie and Cutting Edge, they are amazing.
Thank you again to Trish and Shawn for choosing Cutting Edge Entertainment as your Wedding DJ, and wishing you both all the best life has to offer.
